LoviSil® Cable splices: the perfect technology for the petrochemical industry
Lovink cable splices chosen for high-demand petrochemical applications
Lovink Enertech’s LoviSil® cable splices have earned long-term trust in the petrochemical industry. For many years, operators have used these splices with great satisfaction. One major international EPC contractor recently chose LoviSil® for its versatility, chemical resistance, and installer training support.
One cable splice solution for all medium voltage applications
In 2015, a senior Electrical Engineer at the EPC firm needed a unified cable splice solution. He wanted one technology to handle all medium voltage cables, ranging from 3 to 30 kV. Many of these cables included extra armor for added protection.
Rather than managing multiple splice types, he searched for a single, reliable technology. After detailed presentations and testing, the team selected LoviSil® cable joints.
Chemical resistance built for harsh environments
Protolin® resin, used in LoviSil® MV cable splices, was a key reason for this choice. It offers strong protection against chemical exposure, even in case of accidents. Therefore, it meets a critical requirement in oil and gas installations.
As a result, the contractor could reduce the risk of failure in hazardous conditions. This extra safety contributes to long-term infrastructure reliability.
Planning ahead simplifies MV cable splice selection
Today, the EPC contractor uses LoviSil® for trifurcate, straight-through, loop, and cross-bonding splices. To choose the correct splice for each connection, Lovink worked closely with the engineer. “Putting together this splice list takes time,” says Ron Tiedink, Account Manager at Lovink Enertech. “However, it simplifies ordering and installation later.” This cooperation ensured smooth project execution across multiple facilities.
Supporting circular cable innovation in the petrochemical sector
The EPC contractor also introduced new circular high-voltage cables. These feature aluminum sheaths, replacing traditional lead sheaths. However, this created compatibility challenges with older paper-insulated cables.
Lovink partnered with the engineer and cable supplier to find a solution. Together, they developed a splice that could connect new cables to existing systems. In addition, this supports the industry’s move toward more sustainable materials.
“The expertise, flexibility, and willingness to co-develop solutions is what makes our collaboration with Lovink Enertech so successful,” the engineer stated.
